Scientific Data about Society in Ukraine - Ukraine in European Research Infrastructures in SSH
Summary
The webinar on "Scientific Data about Society in Ukraine" will be focused on Ukraine in European Research Infrastructures in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The webinar aims to be a mutual learning opportunity for involvement of Ukraine in research infrastructures, addressing research infrastructure-practitioners, funders from the European, national and private level as well as delegates from ESFRI and national research infrastructures.
Description
The webinar will give the floor to research infrastructures that have already started cooperation with Ukraine to talk about their lessons learnt and challenges encountered.
Also, the webinar intends to highlight the potential impact of social sciences and humanities research infrastructures for different policy areas. It will finally highlight current funding gaps and opportunities. The discussion will be concluded by a proposal for next steps in collaboration in the near future.
Current activities with Ukraine
Some ESFRI-research infrastructures from the social sciences and humanities have already started activities with Ukraine or are currently exploring different pathways.
The European Social Survey (ESS) ERIC is preparing a data collection in Ukraine as part of the coming 11th wave of data collection in Europe. SHARE ERIC and GGP work on collaborations with researchers and organisations in Ukraine to organise future data collections.
Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure (CLARIN) ERIC currently explores several pathways for cooperation with researchers from Ukraine, for instance in helping to develop language and text corpora or translation systems. These examples show the potential for collaboration with Ukraine that already exists today.
Current activities at CESSDA
The Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA) ERIC supports Ukrainian data experts. They work on saving data assets in Ukraine as well as on developing tools and services to provide better access to data especially from researchers outside of Ukraine. CESSDA is currently doing this through the Czech Service Provider, the Czech Social Science Data Archive (CSDA).
The discussion in the webinar will be concluded by a proposal for next steps in collaboration in the near future.
