Workshop: Exploring social trust: Analysing cross-country and generational trends

The workshop will explore various dimensions of trust, including personal and institutional trust, through a combination of theoretical insights and hands-on SPSS data analysis using European Social Survey data. Participants will analyse trust levels across different countries and age groups, with a particular focus on young people. By examining patterns in social trust, political trust, and interpersonal trust, they will gain a comprehensive understanding of trust dynamics and the factors shaping them in different societies.

Synthetic data, bias, and metadata for transparency

Synthetic data can be a powerful tool in research and development, but it also comes with challenges. In this webinar, Professor Ericka Johnson (Linköping University) introduces key concerns around bias in synthetic datasets, present tools (which are freely available to SND DORIS users) for bias-assessment, and discusses how metadata can help make such biases and other generative “hallucinations” more transparent.

Bridging the gap: How to connect social research with the public and policymakers

This webinar will explore how insights from social research can better reach and benefit both the public and policymakers. Social research often produces valuable knowledge, but it can remain locked within academic or technical circles. We will discuss why making research accessible matters for everyday life and policy, the risks of not doing so, and practical ways to communicate findings clearly. Case examples will show how complex studies can be translated into stories, visuals, and policy briefs that resonate with different audiences.
