Submit your research paper to the CESSDA session at ESRA 2023 by 20 December. The topic is: “best practices in the research data lifecycle from different perspectives: providers of the services, researchers using them, and data stewards helping the process”.

The 10^th Conference of the European Survey Research Association will take place 17–21 July 2023 in Milan, Italy. The conference theme is "Survey research in times of crisis: Challenges, opportunities, and new directions". 

Sessions are being organised by themes and CESSDA is organising a session on “Best practices in research data lifecycle during pandemic times” under the theme of “Data management, processing, and documentation”.

Papers should focus on a certain phase in the research project, describe a use case, or highlight in broad terms best practices and services used in different countries or areas.

About the CESSDA session

Researchers sometimes lack the time to follow new developments in the field of data management or are not aware of all the available tools and services. These are important, as they improve the research process, make it more transparent, and ensure that research outputs are both visible and accessible.

This session will expose the research data lifecycle phases and tools to accompany them.

Some areas of focus:

• Making a solid Data Management Plan using tools such as the CESSDA Data Management Expert Guide (DMEG) or The Multilingual Corpus of Survey Questionnaires (MCSQ)

• Organising documentation

• Processing (especially when working with cross-national surveys)

• Getting help storing data and resolving ethical and legal issues (secure access to sensitive data) from research institutions 

• Publishing data in trusted repositories and ensuring long-term preservation

• Making the data and research outputs discoverable via different portals (e.g. CESSDA Data Catalogue, SSH Marketplace, OpenAIRE, GoTriple). 

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the research landscape. This session encourages discussion on challenges of completing the lifecycle and producing quality research in challenging times.

Please submit an abstract to the session of your choice via the ESRA conference management system by 20 December 2022.

To submit an abstract, you must login to your ESRA account (or create a new account if you do not already have one) and then follow the instructions provided. Please note that it is only possible to submit up to two abstracts as the first author/presenter.
