Fri 6 Sep 2024

CESSDA welcomes the news that Dr. Steve McEachern has been appointed as the New Director of the UK Data Service. Steve McEachern is very familiar with the work of European data archives and CESSDA in his previous role as Director of the Australian Data Archive (ADA). Steve brings a wealth of experience with him in data archiving, survey methodology, and the strategic development of research infrastructures.

Speaking about his appointment Dr. McEachern emphasised “The great opportunity to drive forward a world-leading data service, building on the great leadership provided by Matthew Woollard and the UK Data Service team.” He also emphasised the importance of continuing the Service’s core offerings while exploring new avenues for growth and collaboration, particularly through major international partnerships such as CESSDA.

This vision aligns closely with CESSDA’s strategic themes for 2023-2027: enhancing metadata and data interoperability, fostering connections within the research community, and shaping the European research landscape.

CESSDA’s and UKDS mission are to ensure that high-quality data is preserved and accessible for future research, fostering a trusted environment for social science research and enhancing the impact and reach of services.

You can watch our video interview with Dr. McEachern from January where he spoke about the importance of collaborations between data archives and the initiatives he was involved in with CESSDA.
