In the last ten years, Serbia has been involved in the Open Science Movement, which is a policy priority for the European Commission and a method of collaboration and sharing within the scientific community. Despite the efforts made by the Ministry and research infrastructures, Serbian researchers, regardless of the scientific field or discipline, insufficiently use the data collected by other researchers, which is available through digital archives or repositories. The concept for the workshop originated from DCS's collaboration with colleagues from the Observatory of Social Innovations and the OPENAir movement in Serbia when it was determined that researchers in Serbia do not utilise available secondary data. Also, the CESSDA Data Catalogue, a resource intended for social science scholars, is similarly underutilised. The workshop “Use of secondary data within scientific research” primarily aimed to promote CESSDA Data Catalogue (CDC) with other services available in CESSDA Tools & Services portfolio. In addition, it intended to bring together and educate scientists in Serbia on locating and exploiting secondary data from various sources and what to consider while sharing research data. The workshop opened with an explanation of microdata from international studies like the Community Innovation Survey, European Social Survey, PISA, Labour force survey and others. The workshop continued with practical advice on how to prepare data to be easily discoverable and accessible on the web, as well as ideas on how to locate the data of others, along with an in-depth explanation of FAIR principles. The last part of the workshop presented the CESSDA ERIC as a European consortium for data in the social sciences. Primarily, the CESSDA Agenda was explained with coverage of the main pillars – Trust, Training, Technology and Tools & Services. The main data hub in CESSDA is the Data Catalogue (CDC) which was presented thoroughly. Additionally, the presentation covered other CESSDA services, ELLST (European Language Social Science Thesaurus), CESSDA Vocabulary Service, CESSDA Resource Directory, CESSDA Metadata Validator and European Question Bank.
